It’s Ayaneo’s turn to resurrect and upgrade the Game Boy Advance.

Following the release of Anbernic’s RG34XX handheld last December, Ayaneo has revealed its own updated take on Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance. The company didn’t share any specs for its upcoming Konkr Pocket Advance, but like Anbernic’s it will include four action buttons and potentially rely on emulation instead of a cartridge slot.

The Game of Thrones RTS has been delayed.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, announced last year for a 2026 release, is now set to launch in early 2027.

“We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans,” says developer PlaySide. “This decision gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for.”

“You know who isn’t the hero? The killer of physical.”

PlayStation uploaded new trailers for Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls today, but the comment sections are pretty much all about PlayStation’s plan to kill discs. And this isn’t exactly a new phenomenon.

Valve released the CAD files for the Steam Machine.

Can’t wait to see what people make using them. Hopefully some cool front plates?

Go read this report from a rally opposing the Xbox layoffs.

Aftermath wrote about a rally on Wednesday at ZeniMax’s office in Rockville, MD. ZeniMax, which oversees studios like Bethesda, was hit with 379 cuts in the state of Maryland as part of the broader Xbox layoffs.

How well does the Steam Machine work if it’s running Windows?

ETA PRIME tries to answer that question (while we’re revisiting our initial rating) with some benchmarking courtesy of the Windows drivers Valve released earlier this month. As Videocardz points out, on this unit with 64GB of RAM, the results were pretty close across the three games tested, with SteamOS winning in 1080p across Cyberpunk 2077, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Horizon Zero Dawn, but Windows moving a couple of frames per second ahead at 4K rendering.

A new Netflix game fore you.

The streamer announced its next TV game, called straightforwardly Netflix Minigolf, which is described as pinball meets minigolf, and features courses based on shows like Stranger Things and Squid Game. Mechanism’s desk stand turns your handheld into a tiny desktop.

CNC aluminum arms, built-in cord keeper, folds down for travel, adjustable tension, Allen wrench storage in the steel base. The best part is you can mount multiple extra items to its parallel arms using Mechanism’s other bits. $39 for the stand on July 17th.

The Duskbloods, FromSoftware’s Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, is getting a network test in August.

Selections will be announced on August 7th at 9AM ET. The test will run at specific times from August 21st through August 23rd.

On CFB 27 and #PlayDontPay.

On Pablo Torre Finds Out, comedian Dan Soder talks about the backlash that pushed EA to remove microtransaction paywalls it had added to single-player modes.

We’ll see how long that holds, but as the crew of Shutdown Fullcast points out, EA could sell things people want, like a SWAC addition, or what I want: a Pony Excess DLC pack that lets me recruit Eric Dickerson with cash and cars.

MMOs are so back!

I love that we’ve got dueling MMO stories on The Verge this week. First, from Kallie, about the EverQuest revival: a wild comeback for one of the biggest and most important MMOs ever. Then, from Andrew, about the world’s tiniest MMO, called PointlessQuest. Are the quests endless or pointless? You decide.

Nvidia’s RTX Spark PCs will get Sega games including Virtua Fighter.

That’s the word from Nvidia today. Sega was already on Nvidia’s big partner list in May — see below — but you can add Virtua Fighter Crossroads to the list alongside Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Fortnite, Pragmata, League of Legends, Valorant, PUBG, Naraka Bladepoint and Alan Wake II. We don’t know which are built natively for Arm.

Capcom, CD Projekt, Konami, Mihoyo, Saber, Wargaming, and Xbox are also on the list.

Catching up on Resident Evil on PC is quite affordable.

Fanatical is hosting a build-your-own bundle of Resident Evil games for Steam that costs $6.50 per game, and gets slightly cheaper the more you add. For instance, Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 2 remake are $12.99 together. The site has every major game in the franchise, save for Requiem and a few remakes.

I tried the Asus AR glasses with the OLED Ally — they felt extraneous.

I enjoy plugging Xreal glasses into handhelds for a huge virtual desktop — but that’s no reason to make us buy the priciest version with a 240Hz mode handhelds have trouble powering. Plus, 240Hz halves resolution from 1080p to 540p, which felt weird and ugly in person. (120Hz was fine.) Good thing Asus will now sell the OLED Ally separately!

League of Legends is the next game getting a classic mode.

Riot is following in the footsteps of other big live-services titles like Fortnite, Overwatch, Apex Legends, and World of Warcraft in launching a mode built around days gone by.

For League, Riot says it’s treating League Classic as more of a “collection of greatest hits” rather than making it about one season or moment.

The other kind of football.

As the World Cup nears its end, Apple Arcade is getting the surprise addition of Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition, which hits the service on August 6th. It’s part of a big sports-themed update for Arcade which will also include NFL Retro Bowl ’27 and Retro Bowl College+.

Kingdom Hearts will be featured at Disney’s big D23 expo in August.

The RPG franchise will have a Saturday session and is mentioned in the first paragraph of a blog post about the event’s schedule. Perhaps we’ll finally get a Kingdom Hearts 4 release date?

Here’s what the session, set for August 15th at 7:30PM ET, will be about:

Join us for a journey through light and darkness as we commemorate 25 years of KINGDOM HEARTS. Discover how this saga united Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix, with insights from the creative minds, character voices, and more behind the magic.

SGDQ 2026 raised $2.4M for Doctors Without Borders.

If you catch just one run from Summer Games Done Quick, watch this all-timer Balatro run.

But GDQ had to deal with some controversy shortly after the weeklong marathon ended: following community backlash, it canceled a stream sponsored by SNK, a company that’s majority owned by the Saudi crown prince’s foundation, as it was happening, Kotaku reports.

John Carmack says his statement about Microsoft being ‘a good steward’ of id hasn’t aged well.

The id founder isn’t thrilled with the layoffs at the company he left in 2013. He says, “You can’t rule out the possibility that executives are idiots,” but says we shouldn’t jump to that conclusion before dropping what certainly seems like a list of things Microsoft could have done better.

Great run out of Summer Games Done Quick.
