“It’s like the networks just gave up,” says Rembert Browne, writing for Grantland on “the extinction of the great sitcom fonts.” For most of the nineties, viewers tuning into Duckman, Saved by the Bell, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and other sitcoms were greeted to a typographical cocktail of custom fonts, layouts, and animated letters. Now, sitcoms like The Office, Parks and Recreation, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and 30 Rock rule the airwaves, and all are punctuated by dull, flat fonts and a general lack of creativity. Browne has picked 25 of his favorite examples from the nineties; you can find them over at Grantland.
