LG has formally launched its 84-inch Ultra High-Definition TV in the US, where it will sell at an MSRP of $19,999.99. Like Sony, the Korean manufacturer isn’t entirely excising the 4K name from its marketing materials in favor of UHD, using both terms to describe the set’s 3840 x 2160p resolution.

The 84LM9600 also has 2.2 stereo sound, 3D capability, LG’s motion-controlled Magic Remote to navigate the smart TV interface, a self-calibration tool, and a whole host of other features befitting its astronomical price tag. It’s just as well, because finding enough 4K content to make the most of the set’s headline ability isn’t going to be easy. But can you put a price on owning the first real example of a new technology?
